Summary/Abstract: Due to the oldest recordings, five Bohemian one-word place-names ending in -ovice (Kralovice, Krejčovice, Křišťanovice, Mlynářovice, Petrovice) and three place-names ending in -ice (Úročnice, Zbožnice, Hořejšice) were developed from the original two-word names. These two-word names were turned into one-word names by the process of univerbisation by the suffix -ice. In Bohemian place-names, the suffix -ice is attested as a means of univerbisation since the middle 15th century. On the basis of these findings, a new interpretation of eight place-names, different from the inter-pretations by A. Profous and J. Svoboda in their work Místní jména v Čechách, has been given.
