Summary/Abstract: Every boy believes that his mother is an exceptional person. This belief rarely survives puberty. However,my admiration for my mother has only grown with time. She was born as Hana Frankensteinova in 1904 in Jaromer, a small town in eastern Bohemia. Her parents owned a small factory that made ribbons and similar items. Their large family home and garden were next door. There was a big blue spruce that could be seen through the living room window, and that tree remained a symbol of peace and beauty for Hana. “The only thing that’s missing is a blue spruce”, she would comment on various homes that she visited.
