Summary/Abstract: Log churches, i.e. churches built of wood, occupy a special place in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a special type of religious building, as cultural monuments belonging to human creation. This paper deals with the decoration of mainly the Orthodox log churches that were built during the 18th and 19th century. Their principal building material made it convenient for them to be decorated by applying carving techniques. The decorations of log churches were mainly based on motifs consisting of various hooks, classic and double cross popularly known as wheel, Sunwheel and swastika, motifs consisting of rosettes, lines, dots and rhombuses. These motifs can be observed on all textile, wooden, ceramic, and metal traditional objects in use, which were created in Bosnia and Herzegovina and all around the Balkans.
