This paper presents in brief the Italian legal order and its development as a rich and complex instrument in regards to the juridical treatment of differences, as sophisticated model studied even abroad. Thus the paper links the legal instruments of the European Union in regards to the protection of minority groups and the regional policy and crossborder cooperation and the Italian model of accommodating minorities, presenting the case of territorial autonomy as the most suitable solution in a multicultural and multilingual society.
