Summary/Abstract: Violation of bone metabolism leading to the development of osteoporosis and fractures of bones is the most frequent side effect of treatment with supraphysiological doses of glucocorti-coids in people of all ages. However, the influence of factors that cause osteoporosis is usually given without regard to their impact on the cartilage growth plate of the vertebral body. The purpose of research is to study morphofunctional state of the growth plate of the ver-tebral body of rats with experimental glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. It was found that the methods of biochemical analysis prolonging use of a glucocorticoid prednisolone lead to oxidative stress. The rat plasma products record an increase of lipid pe-roxidation and depression of key antioxidant enzymes. In rats with glucocorticoid-induced oste-oporosis structural and functional organization of the growth plate of the vertebral body, result-ing in free radical damage and destruction hodrotsitov components of the intercellular sub-stance, is broken. Intensive cell death and destruction of the matrix of cartilage growth plate is a reflection of the local manifestations of oxidative stress, which then eventually leads to dyspla-sia of the axial skeleton of rats.
