Summary/Abstract: Some questions immediately arise when we want to analyse what is going on in world literature today. For example, it is clear that the old concept of national literature has to be rethought considering how many borders have shifted during the last decade. This is especially true of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, but can also be observed in other countries, though of course in a different form, the changes there being more often economic than geopolitical. The aim of my paper is to show that these borders are also in a state of constant change in Ireland. In order to do this I will use one of the recent bestselling books both on the American and European market, Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt, and look at the ways in which it highlights potential problems in defining the nationality of an author.
