Summary/Abstract: The phonological interpretation of the topicalities of the Lithuanian accentuation is presented in this article. In the first part of this article the topicalities of the modern Lithuanian are discussed. Those topicalities are highlighted from the usage of the students of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The data was obtained during the training process of the actor speciality students. The main problem was incorrect stress attraction and hypercorrection. To discover good reasons for those phenomena the phonological interpretation was needed. Under the intersection of two Lithuanian dialectal systems – „West“ A and „East“ B – the „new“ Lithuanian system C comes into being. In the latter, vowel length dephonologization is obvious and predicted because of the essential quantitative and qualitative differences existing in both A and B systems. The synchronic alternation there is considered as an indicative of diachronic change in progress. This reason is able to destruct the accentuation system of the modern Lithuanian.
