Summary/Abstract: The study follows the successful escape of Armin Back and his wife Barbara from the Zamosc ghetto in Eastern Poland. Deported there among 1000 people from Ghetto Theresienstadt on April 30, 1942, they were one of two couples and 21 people in total to survive the transport. Using false identities and papers, the Backs passed through Horthy’s Hungary to fascist Slovakia, where they managed to find work and establish themselves “legally”, in part thanks to forging their own documents. Frequently in danger of being revealed, the Backs lived to see their liberation, keeping their WWII alias Dobes after the war.
