Social Aspects of the Longevity Phenomenon

Summary/Abstract: The data from a longtitudinal research of some 216 long living persons in Sofia is summed up from the psycho-social point of view in the offered article. Analyzed are the motives of tolerance of the relatives, taking care of the senior people, namely gratitude, love, devotion, pity and fear of being condemned otherwise. Attention is paid to some negative attitudes of the relatives towards the perspective of their living long, too. The basic issues in the studied families are brought together in several groups: physical hardships insuffucient housing, neurotic disorders of members of the old people families. The unfortunate conclusion is that the needs of the senior people and their families in Sofia of medical and social help and of psychological support remain unsatisfied at the present day.
