Summary/Abstract: The article discusses two dramatic performances whose themes reflect the peculiarities of East-West interaction. One of them is according to Kobe Abe's novel "Woman in the sands", the other is according to a play whose content reveals the tragic experience of Japanese prisoners of war in a soviet concentration camp, while relating with representatives of a culture foreign to them. The author of the article, while exploring the labyrinthine action paths of both performances, their plastic movements of scenic expressions, and the semantic meaning of their symbols, seeks to reveal the differences between Eastern and Western mentalities which result in dramatic finale for both protagonists.
