Summary/Abstract: The article presents G. Lakoff and M. Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory. The text begins with the theoretical principles of the authors, who label themselves "second generation cognitivists". Then the assumptions of the conceptual metaphor theory itself are presented, followed by a discussion of the metaphors used to describe problem solving (the problem is a body of water, the problem is a locked container for its solutions, etc.). The article ends with a brief recount of the types of proof for the validity of the theory and some ideas on how the theory can appear on the agenda of psychologists in Bulgaria.
