Summary/Abstract: The unveiling of Emperor Trajan’s statue, erected in front of the National History Museum has triggered heated exchanges of opinions in Romanian media. Two identical versions of this statue made by Vasile Gorduz are on display since the early 1990s in Seville and Rome. Whereas the Spaniards and the Italians are not scandalized by the nude representation of the glorious emperor, Romanians address this issue in a radically different way, with most of them ridiculing the symbolism of the respective work of art. The paradox of the entailed moral nuances comprises most telling image-related aspects.
