Summary/Abstract: This article emphasizes the importance of technological determinism in understanding of social role of mass media. It considers certain aspects of two most important conceptions labelled as “technological metaphor” at the end of the 20 th century: information society and media culture. Infor-mation society is brought into relation with unexpected effects of media abundance, and media culture with difficulties of social integration.
