Summary/Abstract: Romani ethnicity is a high risk factor in Central and Eastern Europe. Although Roma in Western Europe are also faced with serious problems, the scope and depth of the problem is much greater in the former Communist countries – as was demonstrated by the unrest in Eastern Slovakia’s Romani communities in early 2004.
