The Length and Parameters of Sentences in Individual Texts

Summary/Abstract: In this study the analysis of length and parameters of sentence in individual texts is made. The analyzed material comprises of 1000 sentences, randomly chosen from S. Daugirdaitė, V. Daujotytė, A. Kalėda, V. Kubilius, J. Lankutis, K. Nastopka, J. Sprindytė, G. Viliūnas, A. Zalatorius and S. Žukas books, dating from 1980 to 2002, which are considered as literary texts. Statistically 17 thousand words were analyzed. The main method used was quantitative and qualitative analysis of syntactical constructions. The data of syntactical structure of analyzed authors' texts is compared, looking for similarities and differences. In order to highlight authors' individuality, the uniqueness of literary texts, the data of simple and subordinate sentences frequency of use is given. Two clusters of individual texts are discerned. The texts in the stylistics of Lithuanian language, related to particularities of the science of literature, are still rarely analyzed, thus the acquired data can be significant not only for further analysis of functional stylistics, but linguistics of texts as well.
