Das Ding an sich in the Context of Schopenhauer’s Philosophy

Summary/Abstract: The present article focuses on Schopenhauer’s interpretation of the thing-in-itself as will; the author explicates the Kantian assumption of its unknowability, adopted by Schopenhauer. On the other hand, the possibility to reach partial immediate knowledge of Ding an sich is deduced by a theoretical interpretation of the body as objectified will. In this regard, the article highlights some of Schopenhauer’s main analyses of these problems, revealing the specificity of the thing-initself in the context of his philosophy.
