Summary/Abstract: The following dissertation discusses contemporary concepts and methods of film dialogue analysis. The concept of "dialogue" frequently comes up in research works by both Polish and Russian linguists, the interest in the concept having been driven by the need to determine human's position in the process of communication and the role of context in social interactions. The factors coming to the fore in the works discussed in the dissertation are: interlocutor's social status, social context, types of codes, and the influence of "cultural environment". The author of the dissertation compares theories put forth by researchers who look at various aspects of spoken dialogue analysis, individual elements of each concept making up a single coherent picture of film dialogue studies. The dissertation research investigates films since cinema is a major carrier of national cultures and traditions and has a significant impact on international communication. An inextricable part of any film, dialogues mirror everyday life and are supposed to be natural, spontaneous and expressive; as such, they come as good and abundant material for linguistic analysis. The author touches upon such issues as: situational context, spoken-like language and film translation techniques. It is also quite significant to position dialogue among other types of texts, this being possible thanks to textual linguistic studies. As various research projects have shown, analysis of a single linguistic element implies a multiplicity of interpretations, further complicated by intonation. A good subtitle translation should take account of all extralinguistic factors, investigated in linguistic works quoted herein.
