Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses representations of femininity in the works by Nina Berberova The conceptions of a female, femininity and of feminine prose, which changed greatly at the turn of the 20th century, had an enormous influence on women writers. They led to the creation of a model female figure: a liberated woman, speaking out her sexuality, reflecting upon her body and seeking her own identity. The conception of femininity, as drawn by Berberova, is connected with the atmosphere of mystery, freedom and independence. Freedom was a paramount value for Berberova herself, and for the women characters she created. Strife for power, accompanied by the fear of losing freedom, and the struggle to reach independence from the Other are factors that create the aura of mystery of the female protagonists in История одинокой жизни. Чайковский и Железная женщина. and Рассказ о жизни М. И. Закревской-Бенкендорф-Будберг, о ней самой и ее друзьях.
