Summary/Abstract: The article puts in question the normativity hidden within the Geisteswissenschaften project and outlines two alternatives in the project development in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. Those alternatives trace, on the one hand, a philosophical-historical solution (referring to Luckac's and Heidegger's theories) and on the other hand a socio-political solution (referring to M. Weber's and C. Schmidt's theories). A different balance between the themes of legality and legitimacy is explicated in each case. The thesis stood for is that the philosophical-historical model sacrifices legality for the sake of legitimacy whereas the socio-political model preserves their separate places and the balance between them.
