Summary/Abstract: The essay describes the history and progress of a discussion concerning the issue of engaged anthropology in Poland. An overview of different opinions in this matter, allowed the author to distinguish two main orientations. The first one is connected with the debate among the anthropologists involved with the „(op.cit.,)” magazine. Th e second one revolves around the redefi nition of the „fi eld” category, as well as the fieldwork method itself.
