Summary/Abstract: In the third war between Israel and the Arab states, the Arab armies faced a catastrophic defeat. The destroyed military capacitates were rebuilt immediately after the end of the war. Armament and the military equipment was taken from the Soviet Union, East European and the nonaligned countries as a cost-free military aid, or on the basis of favorable loaning and clearing arrangements. Yugoslavia took visible role in those projects, striving to help its Arab allies within the limits of its abilities. During the summer of 1967. Yugoslavia directed considerable economical and military assistance to Egypt (infantry armament, antitank and antiaircraft technique, lories, communication systems, airplane bombs). The aid, as well as the sale of armament and military equipment was agreed during the visit of Josip Broz Tito to Cairo in 1967. Yugoslav government approved a loan to UAR with a low interest rate for purchasing the Yugoslav product. Credit was payable through clearing arrangement. Such a loaning policy was stimulating the export of the products of the domestic industry, as well as the import of the needed products from the UAR. The rest of the Yugoslav credit was spent to buy the goods in the other countries, but trough the Yugoslav companies for foreign trade, which was and additional benefit. Through the credit arrangement sizable quantities of domestic armament and military equipment was sold (800 lories, 300 bazookas, 1000 telephones, 148 antiaircraft guns, 100 radio stations) as well as the smaller quantities of the old soviet weaponry (100 antiaircraft machineguns). Yugoslav military aid to UAR was a part of wide program of assistance for the Arab countries in order to alleviate the consequences of the catastrophic political and military defeat in the course of the third war between Israel and the Arab countries.
