Summary/Abstract: The sculptor D. Pavelescu-Dimo (1870-1944). In the Rumanian sculpture, the name of the sculptor D. Pavelescu - Dimo (1870-1944) is little know. A very gifted artist, he graduated the Academy of Fine Arts from Bucharest, where he was the student of Ioan Georgescu. Afterwards, he left for Italy to improve his technique. In Italy, at Florence, he had a studio for more than 30 years. As a sculptor, he belongs to the "Naturalist School". During his career as a sculptor, D. Pavelescu - Dimo made a real gallery of busts of political and cultural personalities. He also made "The Monument of Independence" from Piteşti; "The Monument of Emperor Traian" from Brăila; "The Monument of Independence" from Craiova; the plans for some monuments of Michael the Brave, Steven the Great, Vlad Ţepeş, Octavian Goga, a monument of the Union, many expressive heads and funeral monuments. The creator of a remarcable artistic point of view, D. Pavelescu-Dimo deserves, in our opinion, to have a more than honourable position in the hierarchy of the Rumanian sculpture.
