Summary/Abstract: Generally, the representations of Christian hell belong to violent imaginaries. Even if this tradition is well represented in Christian texts and paintings, in other traditions (folk mythology, alchemy, literature, etc.) there appears a poetical dimension of death. Exploring this “mild death”, the paper engages Bachelard’s approach of deadly waters. It also deals with the poetics deriving from “feminine” thanatology.
