Summary/Abstract: Revalorizing edited documentary sources related to the conflict of the Romanians in the district of Bistriţa with the Saxon authorities of Bistriţa, the author approaches some of the components of the political discourse they used in relation with the Court mainly, in order to improve their socio-political background. Among these, special attention is paid not only to the main themes of the political thought of the Romanian elite, such as the role of the monarchy in the organizational system of the empire, the importance of the status of free men, equal to the Saxon inhabitants of the district, and of loyalty towards the authorities of the monarchy, but also to the problematic of the social distribution of this political discourse to the inferior parts of the Romanian group and other social implications of the general movement, in order to offer a better understanding of the district’s subsequent evolution.
