The Third Pillar of the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses briefly the development of legal instruments in the third pillar of the European Union. It analyses the relevant provisions of the Treaty of Maastricht, the Treaty of Amsterdam, and the Treaty of Nice as well as the Conclusions of the European Council in Tampere. Finally the author considers changes with regard to police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters introduced with the European Constitution.
