Summary/Abstract: Nowadays world is justly called the information world, signifying the shifted power balance and emphasizing information importance. Advancement of communication technologies alters the relation between information and power. 24-hour news and current affaires covering channels today influence political solutions both at peace and even more so in the event of war or political and diplomatic crises. This article reveals the employment of 24-hour news channels to prosecute an information war. Technologies enabling the spread of information throughout other countries without their permission become the means of information warfare in solving international conflicts. Having established the great significance and predominance of information warfare in the international relationships, the information war conception with its features and preeminence is being outlined; the prerequisites of the information warfare are described. The role of the media in the information wars is one of the most powerful. The countries of great economy have appreciated this actuality, thus, the 24-hour news channels are established to primarily portray the world news in the right position in order to gain over the audience of the several countries at once. In the context of today’s Lithuania media companies here can allow themselves neither large number of special correspondents, nor satellite utilization to cover foreign news. Having revealed the obstacles and its preconditions the Lithuanian’s media dependence from foreign media channels is rated as high.
