The impact of the food crisis on the implementation of agricultural export restrictions in the world agricultural trade

Summary/Abstract: In response to the food crisis 2007–2008 many countries decided to introduce measures of trade and fiscal policy. The main reason of this activity was the intention to improve the income situation of domestic consumers. Among implemented measures there were also export restrictions which had not been practiced in the world agricultural trade on such a large scale. The main aim of this paper is to examine export restrictions which were being used during the period 2007–2008 and to present reasons why the final effect of their introduction was the next growth of food prices on the world market. Additionally, the author introduces the issue of export restrictions within the framework of the World Trade Organization – its statements and recent negotiations.
