Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of enhancing the international competitiveness of economy through the measures within the public diplomacy aimed at building long-lasting relations with external environment as well as country’s image. Basing on the results of the competitiveness ranking by Institute of Management Development (IMD) released in 2010 the author embarks upon identification of these qualitative factors which in the Polish case play the most significant role, provides the assessment of undertaken measures and presents his own proposals. The basis of these considerations are the theoretical concept of soft power by J. Nye and methodological approach of the “British School” of international political economy.
