Summary/Abstract: The oldest information available about a preserved Glagolitic inscription in Slavonia (allegedly discovered in the old town Subocka, near the town of Novska) goes back to the manuscript legacy of Luka Ilić Oriovčanin. The first preserved and undoubtedly Glagolitic inscription in Slavonia was discovered in the year 1989 in the medieval church of Saint Demetrius in Brodski Drenovac during the restauration of its Gothic frescoes. After that discovery the author of this paper found eight more Glagolitic inscriptions in the same church. It transpires from the analysis of the nine inscriptions that they appeared at different times, and were written in different handwritings. This only testifies to a continuity of Glagolitic tradition throughout at least two centuries, and allows us to discard any presumptions of a mere and occasional 'Glagolitic tourism'. Two more Glagolitic inscriptions were discovered in the medieval church of Saint Martin in the village of Lovčić (some thirty kilometers west of Slavonski Brod, in the Stupnik municipality). The Drenovac and Lovčić inscriptions are finds truly worthy of exploration, especially as they come to bear on the general and cultural history of Croatia's medieval North. Our main objective was to list and describe the mentioned inscriptions and thus point to the need of in-depth research. The sheer number and diversity of Glagolitic inscriptions in Drenovac and Lovèiæ indicate that the Glagolitic script was at home in Slavonia, that is, that it represented at the time an important cultural bond between Croatia’s North and South.
