Summary/Abstract: Introduction. On the one hand, housing sector of Ukraine is characterized by aggravation of environmental risks posed by an aging housing stock and infrastructure, on the other hand, increasing economic costs are associated with keeping physically and morally obsolete housing. That is why the search for ways to optimize housing is needed in light of ecological and economic security of housing. Purpose of the paper is to examine the ecological and economic security of house sector of Ukraine, based at both traditional and new indicators for domestic science. Results. The article is dedicated to analysis of current issues of environmental and economic security of housing in Ukraine. We have determined differences in the availability of appropriate statistical database in Ukraine and EU countries, and simultaneously made an attempt to their harmonization. Results indicate that increasing of environmental and economic risks for housing remains one of the most urgent problems of economic development. Analysis of the rate of housing stock aging, its equipment, basic kinds of housing services providing, resource efficiency indicates the aggravation of ecological and economic threats to its development. Only accelerating of upgrade residential stock, improvements in existing dwelling mix and optimization of service system providing will reduce the risks of rapid environmental and economic problems of the country’s housing stock. Conclusion. Focus at ecological and economic hazards of quality-life support systems is reflected in the state of the housing stock. The studies have shown that the basic components of the housing stock of Ukraine are in crisis. That is an important signal for the urgent development, effective decision-making and financial resources accumulation for their implementation. It is necessary to increase the affordability of new housing and to access to the policy of «effective owner» in residential housing in order to release the initiative of population to improve environmental and economic efficiency of housing.
