Summary/Abstract: Hollywood has always been the center of the cinema world, both in film production and in media studies terms. Initially, Bollywood has represented the margin of the film studies, but nowadays, due to the globalization and postmodern hybridity, many Hollywood-ian motion pictures have borrowed Hindi elements. The purpose of this article is to show how Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge” has developed Hindi cultural motifs and cinema techniques in a postmodern feature film. The importance of Bollywood in pop culture productions continues to represent a burning issue, generating many debates both in cultural and film-media studies. Should it be transculturalization or just a global phenomenon? In order to answer this question we will deconstruct Luhrmann’s film to find out how much Hollywood-ian heritage and Bollywood-ian influence form this intriguing musical.
