Modem Museum and the Art History Problem. Drawing the Field

Summary/Abstract: In his text On the New Boris Groys examines the institutionalized role and the authority of modern museum from the point of view of the term 'novel' and its role as a legitimate guarantee in art 'production'. I would like to comment this thesis binding the problem of the modern museum with that of art history and more concretely its transformations and discourses in the second half of the 20th century. As a key line of the interpretation of Groys and at the same time a hypothesis of the offered text will be presented the idea that the institutional authority of modern museum which encounters different problems today is one of the bodies of the continued art history. A history the discourse of which has been interrupted by the emerging ideas of its end but which continues to exist in it's highly politicized bodies, following the death of the 'great narrative' with which modern narrative connects us. A key term for this modern narrative about art history is the term 'novelty'. Boris Groys plays with this term in his text which has motivated me to present the commentary.
