Summary/Abstract: The term curator is of Latin origin and literary means guardian or trustee. In Bulgaria it is perceived in its modern interpretation from English and generally speaking means a person (or a team) responsible for one project in the sphere of art - from the birth of the idea to its final realization, so, respectively the project also is called curators'. Curator projects are realized mainly in the different spheres of the visual arts - fine arts, photography, architecture, media as well as in some border arts. As a rule the curators are art experts or art critics and as an exception to the rule, which is often disproved - culture experts and artists. The curator projects became popular in the country as part of the changes in the sphere of culture, preceded by the 1989 political, social and economic changes. The curator project is a process that has its mandatory and succeeding stages. In its basis there is always the concept of the exhibition created by the imagination of the curator. The concept, place of the exhibition and the financing are the three pillars on which a curator project stands. Along with the work on these three points a great amount of other work, connected with the securing of documentation of the art works that will participate in the exhibition, the preparation of the catalogue, the arrangement of the exposition, the presentation of the concept and the selected authors and works before the media, the opening up of the exhibition and after the closing - the return of the objects back is accomplished. During the last few years a number of important curator projects were realized in Bulgaria as well as abroad. The audience received these projects that have turned into exhibitions with interest and showed that its expectations have been in the same direction. This fact once again confirms the status of the curator as a cultural mediator and assigns him with an important role in the next years when the presentation of fine art will become even more innovative and lively thanks to the creation and realization of original curator projects.
