Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to explain the poet’s linguistic creativity. I concentrate on syntactic and inflectional matters. In my view the device of diathesis is the most interesting. The diathesis consists in removing the agent (p. 1.); it is sometimes connected with the alteration of the syntactic characteristics of verbs (p. 2.1.) as well as with the {Die Die sogenannten „unbestimmt – personlichen” Formen in der polnichen Sprache „unbestimmt – personlichen” Formen in der polnichen Sprache} the agent for the experiencer (p. 2.2.). Furthermore, I analyze Szymborska’s inflectional idiosyncrasies (p. 2.3.), I discuss the poet’s original word-formation (p. 2.4.). I also propose an interpretation of the stylistic functions of the discussed poetic devices. Szymborska presents some situations as states or processes which one ultimately experiences as independent of one’s will. I approach these techniques as a manifestation of the poet’s humble attitude to the reality and the role the author or the hero of the poem plays in it.
