Summary/Abstract: The author of the paper addresses the question whether a conceptual schema is a myth. Karl Popper defined the term as the view that a discussion can be fruitful when it is held within the framework of an adopted conceptual schema (scientific paradigm). The philosopher believed that a discussion may be fruitful only when conflicting views which are created in different paradigms are compared. The condition for the existence of such a discussion is that the parties to the debate know the foundations of the conceptual schemata. Linguistics can offer assistance here. However, the author suggests that philosophy of linguistics can be more productive, if it examines to what degree linguistic claims are rooted in various philosophical systems.
