Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is a comparative analysis of names of the demonic creatures in Italian and Polish folk tales. The subject of the studies was the linguistic material excerpted from dialectal dictionaries and from linguistic atlases. The semantic and morphological analysis was oriented at examining the etymology of the names and at presenting the methods of euphemizing connected with the linguistic taboo.
