Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the political activity of Jan Baudouin de Courtenay. Following de Courtenay’s writings on public affairs(he published approximately 200 brochures, treatises, polemic articles and programs) one can see that the issues of injustice and national oppression, intolerance, xenophobia and limits on civil liberties absorbed him to a smaller or larger extent, but he never remained indifferent towards them. The paper discusses de Courtenay’s views on nationality and state, nationality and language policy in Russia, the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, Prussia and Poland as well as the most important assumptions of de Courtenay’s political programme of 1905–1907.
