Summary/Abstract: Romanian historiography is inclined to preserve two contradictory images of Gheorghe Sincai: the tragic image of the pilgrim historian carrying his lifetime work in his cloth bag and at the opposite corner, the hyperbolic image of the imperial clerk establishing over 300 schools on his own. The present study intends to pinpoint the main historiographical reference points that have generated or multiplied positions related to the subject Gheorghe Sincai – the man and the work- thus contributing to the crystallization of images in operation at the present time. Our investigation of historiographical products associated to the chosen subject has relied on varied categories, from the work of synthesis concentrated around the Transylvanian School to the monographic studies and works that have been decisive in shaping the present day image of Gheorghe Sincai. Our review of varied categories of historiographical products was intended to sort out and retain the relevant contributions necessary to direct our work on this topic as well as to identify possible examples that have stood out through the promotion of a new type of interdisciplinary approach and whose results have already been verified in Romanian historiography.
