Summary/Abstract: The author is dealing with one of the crucial issues in the post war period for every state, and also for Bosnia and Herzegovina – reconciliation. The author alleges that reconciliation can not be realized in the social environment by itself, it requires numerous preconditions, primarily the truth about the aggression, crimes, identifications of persons who issued orders for these crimes and their perpetrators, responsibility through adequate judicial process and pronouncement of sanctions, restitution of prewar rights (return to own homes, return of the property, reparation, educational and health systems, adequate personnel representation in public services, etc.), finding missing persons, their identification and proper funeral, providing legal, humanitarian and other aid, organization of joint funerals, etc. This paper places great emphasis on the civil sector in the process of reconciliation, primarily the non-governmental organizations whose work is based on getting over the negative war-related occurrences in all aspects of life, which are represented by the victims. It is their primary interest that mentioned issues are resolved successfully, whereby the conditions for the reconciliation will be made, i.e. for the tolerance and conjoined life, which is the existential characteristic of the multiethnic being of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
