Summary/Abstract: Discussing the recent book by Andrei Pleşu The Parables of Jesus. The Truth as a Story [Parabolele lui Iisus. Adevărul ca poveste], Humanitas, 2012, Petre Guran reveals the novelty of such a book in the Romanian culture, showing that the meeting between the Orthodox spiritual universe and the cultural universe of Modernity has just reached the age of maturity, due to the historical conditions involved in the formation of the Romanian culture. In this context, the relative absence of the patristic literature from a book dedicated to the evangelical parables indicates a delay in the merging of patristic conscience with the Romanian culture, but it is also a sign for the need of a new evangelization, adapted to this century of disbelief
