Summary/Abstract: The article points out to B. P. Hasdeu's special interest in documents and also in libraries as institutions that shelter manuscripts, varied historical sources, rare books etc. The European archives and libraries where Hasdeu conducted his research are mentioned and his most important printed works based on historical documents are discussed. The conclusion of the article is that B. P. Hasdeu nourished a true passion for documents and his scientific activity was indeed "phenomenal, of a colosal stature". Hasdeu is indeed " a giant of the Romanian culture" and " a genius of an overwhelming stature".
