Summary/Abstract: The present study is organized in two distinctive parts. The respective period includes The War of Independence that strongly influenced the Romanians’ image about their ruler. The first part deals with the difficulties some of the Romanians had in accepting the idea that they were being ruled by a foreign prince, and not by one of Latin origin (as they would have liked), but by a member of the Prussian Royal Family: the Hohenzollerns. There were also many economic and political difficulties which affected in a negative manner the king’s image. Nevertheless, he had his supporters who tried to act like a shield against the attacks. The second part of this study presents the impact that The War of Independence had on the image of Prince Carol I, which was a very positive one. Being the first ruler of the Romanians to come back victorious from a war, defeating the Turks, Carol I became a hero, the ties between him and his people became stronger (Carol received the specific denomination of the Romanian rulers - Vodă) and the voices that spoke against him became fewer.
