Summary/Abstract: The preoccupation of the Romanian historiography in the last decade towards the ecclesiastic history, as well as the history of the religious life, requires the revival of the interwar period researches dedicated to the theological sources. Our study intends to be a “radiography” of the content of The Children’s Bread catechism. The work of the Jesuit Paul Ladislau Baraby, published at the metropolitan publishing house from Alba Iulia, in 1702, represents an initial stage in the development of the official discourse promoted by the Romanian United Church in the 18th century. The exposition of the Christian doctrine, of the disciplinary commandments reflecting the Council of Trent provisions, the defining of the renewed piety in the spirit of the Catholic Reform, the indication of an attitude rejecting the Protestant teaching and the refusal to mark the specific character of the Greek-Catholic Church, all of these are elements of the catechetic discourse of Jesuit inspiration, which reflect the intention of the promoters of the Romanian Transylvanians’ religious union, to proceed at suggesting a Catholic identity by the Greek-Catholic Romanian elite, asserted at the middle of the 19th century, would influence the Catholic discourse promoted by the United Church.
