Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an attempt of preparing a regional development model in the context of globalization determinants. At the beginning theoretical foundations of globalization and regional development are described. The most synthetic phenomena are indicated in two extreme models. Then the preparation and implementation of strategies are presented within the conditions of global trends and economic fluctuations. The main challenges were identified as follows: demography, income differentiation, ecology, economic crisis and policy (politics). All these factors strongly influence the regional development and should be considered in the economic policy. The proposed model is based on the demand philosophy and short-term balance. The article closes with conclusions and recommendations for regional development in socioeconomic surroundings. These can be used at the macroeconomic level by central governments to take adequate measures of inter-regional policy. Similar mechanisms of intra-regional policy could be suggested to shape local authority activities.
