Summary/Abstract: The article explores the stylistic composition of an entry from the Frédéric Chopin’s intimate diary, in which the artist compares himself to a corpse. The composer employs the stylistic device of representing ‘a person in a state of complete mental breakdown’ {as a living, live corpse}. The {living corpse} trope determines the Stuttgart writings meaning, axiological import, emotional aura and stylistic value. The style of the diary was defined by the emotive function of the language. In formulating his statement, the author makes references to stylistic varieties firmly established in the language, but the most unique and idiosyncratic aspects of Chopin’s style appear to be connected with his artistic identity as a composer. Frédéric Chopin’s funerary self-portrait is undoubtedly of value as a cultural text of universal significance.
