Summary/Abstract: This text explores the dynamism between the external account of events and the experiencing of those events in the internal chronotopes of consciousness in the three narratives on the topic of the death penalty related by Prince Myshkin in The Idiot. In this perspective the face and the gaze are related to the possibility of understanding as an internal temporal unfolding of the moment of experience. Contentwise these problems are clarified by reviewing the status of the religious and the accidental in the field of experience, and of the spatio-temporal dimensions of existence set by the immediate experience of death.
