Summary/Abstract: The introduction attempts to create the context of the texts that follow. It reviews the work and main ideas of the three authors: Mark Blaug, Donald (Deirdre) McCloskey and Daniel Hausman. Some lessons of the contemporary study of economic methodology are drawn. (1) Despite differences of view, the authors of this selection agree that economists do not follow the positivistic and falsificationist methodologies they preach. (2) Since these views lost much of their appeal in the philosophy of science of the last half a century and were always problematic in economics, a critique of economic practice does not follow immediately. (3) What follows from this is rather that much more attention must be payed to “what economists actually do”. This is where the studies translated in this block prove to be useful and complementary to each-other.
