Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to estimate the relationship between employment and economic growth for the 1995–2008 periods in EU-15 and Hungary. In our estimations we followed a sectoral approach to identify the main features of productivity growth. In order to demonstrate this, a simple shift-share analysis method was used to determine the changes in different technology intensive branches. All in all, we concluded (1) a greater role of regional than sectoral effects, and (2) also found that sectoral bonus and burden was occurred in high technology intensive branches and (3) mostly at the boom or recession periods.
