Summary/Abstract: The American occupation in Iraq has destabilized the country and Middle East. This is the picture after four years of occupation and war. Ignoring the concrete political, social, ethnic and religious realities of the region, the US has drawn its invasion and security plans according to the American way of thinking and of understanding democratization . The war has opened the Pandora box, letting free, more than ever before, nationalistic feelings, ethnic hatred, inter-clan conflicts, sectarianism. While the US plan for security looks encouraging on paper, the reality on the front is completely different, a sign that the US’ and its allies’ military presence in Iraq may prove a complete failure in their attempt to democratize and pacify the country and the whole region.
