Summary/Abstract: The article presents data on the extent of demographic ageing in the different continents and regions of the world — separately for men and women. The demographic ageing of Bulgarian population is situated within the context of Europe, and the so called East-European region. Prognoses for the demographic ageing of the population all over the world by regions up until 2025 are presented. As factors for demographic ageing are viewed the following: the dynamics of average length of future life at birth (with a stress on child mortality and the mortality of men in middle and old ages) and birth-rates. As major consequences of demographic ageing pointed out and commented on are: accumulation of generations; health condition of elderly people; change in the structure of mortality by reasons; social status of elderly women, etc.
